It’s a sunny hot day in Fall in the city of Cypress. You are in the mood for something cold and tasty. Where do you go? Frostbites is just across the street waiting to indulge Cypress College students with their signature Italian ice that is sure to hit the spot.
A few months ago, owner Eugene Kim took on the small shop in Cypress with his East Coast inspired Italian ice shop. “The concept to Frostbites was from the east coast. It was Philadelphia style Italian ice” Kim says, “When someone would visit me I would always do the unique thing of getting a cheese steak and stopping by for some Italian ice.”
“Italian ice is very popular in the East coast, the only thing is stores close down from the months of October to March” Kim says “California is open 12 months, all year round which is why the shop was a good place to open.”
Frostbites include a delectable amount of different flavors of Italian ice, frozen custard, savory and sweet crepes to feed your sweet tooth. Be prepared to walk into a warm and inviting setting while the friendly workers let you try as many flavors as your heart desires. The best and the most popular item is the sorbet cream which is any flavor Italian ice mixed with your choice of chocolate or vanilla ice cream.
At a starting price of $2.79 for a small and rounding up to $4.39 for a large is a great deal any Cypress College student can afford. “I love Frostbites. I come here every week and before I never used to really like ice cream, but the Italian ice is something else. The watermelon tastes like you are biting into a real juicy watermelon” Cypress College student, Joshua Whitaker says, “this place is addicting and there is nothing like it. I’m so over Pinkberry and Yogurtland.”
Kim chose the location of Cypress because he grew up in the area. “This is my hometown. I was in the area one day and I saw the for lease sign. I have another shop in Riverside and opened it 7 ½ years ago. Kim says, “I used to go to the arcade, eat at Albertacos, and go to church around here. I feel comfortable here.”
Frostbites is open until 10 p.m. most nights. If you are studying and need to take a sweet break, Frostbites is here to satisfy that craving. “I like coming to Frostbites, bring my laptop and just enjoy the deliciousness of the dessert that is coming back” Cypress College student, Maria Sillas says, “this place is a gold mine for me as a student and is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. Not only is the Italian ice good but the crepes wow! I think this place can make it big.”
The future seems bright for Kim with his creative idea brought to Southern Cali. “I would like to eventually franchise out and use the Cypress shop as a test model” Kim said. As for the future discounts for Cypress College students that could potentially be happening. Until then go and try a few of the many fun treats that Kim and his crew have to offer at a low affordable price.
