During the 2007 State of the Union Address this past Tuesday, President Bush stated that he wanted a volunteer "Civilian Reserve Corps", because it would lessen the burden on the military. He said that the corpse would be "much like our military reserve".
Certain people with "critical skills" would now be able to serve overseas on missions when they are needed.
This Civilian Corpse would "give people across America who do not wear the uniform a chance to serve in the defining struggle of our time."
The details were very minimal about this new government function.
The White House said the next day that there was no further information on the new program. One Defense spokesman even stated that he was not familiar with the proposal at all.
The Defense Department has hired thousands of civilians, and contracted them with the military to serve abroad in overseas missions already since the War on Terrorism began in 2001.
President Bush is not the first person to propose something like this.
Last year, Kris Alexander proposed a very similar program, hoping it would work out since "many Americans would be eager to serve their country through a broader civilian reserve program."
He also stated that since it is a one-hundred percent voluntary force, everyone involved "would join with the understanding that they could be put in harm's way."
This new Civilian Reserve Corpse would be a new American patriotism, one which people all over the United States could feel proud to help out their country during a time of war.
