The Cypress Chronicle's Divergence Magazine, made its debut in the magazine category at the Journalism Association of Community Colleges'(JACC) annual convention in Sacramento March 26-28 by earning four awards.

Once again, CyChron.Com, the daily news site of The Cypress Chronicle, won general excellence. This is the eleventh year in a row The Chronicle has won an award for online excellence. Anna Allen, editor in chief, earned an honorable mention for a profile feature story on CyChron.

Diana Arbas, founder of Divergence Magazine and editor in chief in fall 2008, won an honorable mention for magazine feature writing. Bryce Klepinger and Jeremy Hall won honorable mention for cover design. Alexandru Mitroi won another honorable mention for magazine photography.

The seven staff members and their adviser, Robert R. Mercer, attended three days of workshops in mass media. They also toured the California state capitol and Old Sacramento.

Nathan MacDonough, producer of The Chronicle's C-Scope video magazine; Allen; Arbas; and Klepinger , who is also executive producer of Cypress College Radio; were honored in a multimedia presentation along with other JACC student leaders at the Saturday awards banquet.
